Obesity is attacking the most vulnerable of us - our children. We’ve seen the effects of this enemy: depression, bullying, cancer, poor academic performance, and reduced life expectancy. The status quo will not do. The AdvoCare Foundation is commited to helping children live safe, happy, and healthy lives and we will succeed.
Our children's lives have become more sedentary
With the rise in access to sedentary forms of entertainment like movies and video games, and the decline of opportunities to get our children moving, we’re breeding an inactive lifestyle in our youth.
Absence of Nutrition Education
Among classes where nutrition is taught, elementary students only receive 3.4 hours of food and nutrition education each year. This lack of knowledge leads to poorer food choices at school and at home.
1 out of 5 children do not have access to adequate food
More than 15 million children in the U.S. experience food insecurity each year. These children’s families have limited access to nutritious food due to cost, proximity, or other reasons.
Over 20% of children today live in a food insecure area where the USDA determined there is a lack of access to enough food for an active, healthy life for all members of a household, and a limited or uncertain availability of nutritionally adequate foods.
